The excitement is building for the upcoming Cal Tri Castaic Lake event taking place this Saturday, June 20, 2026. Set against the scenic backdrop of northern Los Angeles County, this highly anticipated race in the California Triathlon Series promises to deliver a challenging yet welcoming environment for athletes of all skill levels.
Here is what you need to know ahead of race day:
Kickoff & Athlete Demographics
The multisport weekend officially begins on Friday with the Swim & Coaching Clinic, which already has 69 eager athletes registered to fine-tune their technique.
This event highlights incredible inclusivity and community spirit, bringing together a diverse field of competitors:
- Age Range: Competitors spanning generations will be on the course, with the youngest athlete at 9 years old and the oldest at 78.
- Newcomers: A striking 43% of participants are first-timers! Out of 437 polled athletes, 189 responded “Yes” when asked if this is going to be their first multisport race.
- Geographic Diversity: Total registrations have reached 468. While California heavily represents the pack with 449 athletes, the starting line will feature competitors from across the United States, including Texas, Arizona, Washington, and New York, as well as international representation from Canada, Germany, and Mexico.
Perfect Race Weather
Athletes can look forward to ideal racing conditions on Saturday. The forecasted high for June 20 is a pleasant 77°F with an early morning low of 53°F. Best of all, there is a 0% chance of precipitation, ensuring a dry and comfortable day out on the course.
The Course: A Brutal & Beautiful Challenge
While the weather is welcoming, the Olympic bike course is ready to test your legs. Featuring a massive 3,200 feet of elevation gain, this Olympic distance route has more climbing than any Ironman 70.3 bike course in the U.S.
The full event lineup features multiple distance options, all taking advantage of the area’s stunning landscape:
- Swim: A modified V-shaped course located in the serene waters of Castiac Lagoon.
- Bike: A scenic but demanding out and back course on local back roads designed to minimize interaction with vehicle traffic.
- Run: A rewarding finish along the rolling trails overlooking the lake.
